Manchester United have entered talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer this summer, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Red Devils could strengthen their defence this summer with the anticipated exits of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans. Lisandro Martinez is also out with a serious knee injury and may not return until December.

Amidst this, Plettenberg has revealed that United have joined the pursuit of Tah, who is expected to leave Leverkusen when his contract expires at the end of June.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich were favourites to sign him last year, but the European giants have yet to make fresh contract proposals to the 29-year-old defender.

United have entered the pursuit for his services and could lure him to Old Trafford with a lucrative salary package.

He is on £43,000 per week and United could easily treble his wages to convince him to move to the Premier League on a Bosman transfer.
