Manchester United have not ruled out a low-cost midfield signing during the January transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.
The Mancunian giants have been linked with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba over the past couple of weeks.
However, none of those midfielders are expected to be available in January, and United may have to wait for them until the summer.
The Red Devils could still pursue a low-cost alternative this winter, given they are yearning for a proper upgrade on Casemiro.
Casemiro has transformed his fortunes under manager Ruben Amorim this term, but his limited mobility remains a big concern.
The former Real Madrid man has been happy to sit back and defend, but Amorim may want someone who can high press opponents too.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes is viewed as a low-cost signing in January, given he could be available for £40-45 million.
Gomes is unlikely to turn down the prospect of joining the Red Devils, and the final decision will rest on the shoulders of the hierarchy.
