Man Utd FLOP given escape route as Championship club approach

Championship side Hull City are reportedly interested in Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

The Turkish international has struggled for game time at Old Trafford since joining the Premier League club in the summer of 2023, and a move could be on the horizon in the upcoming transfer window.

He came in from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 for a €5 million fee plus a reported 20 per cent sell-on clause.

While the Turkey international was signed as a back-up to Erik ten Hag’s first choice Andre Onana, he has been restricted. Under a new head coach, Ruben Amorim, maybe all that can change – but it does not seem likely.

Over the course of two years, he has played just two games for the Red Devils. The 6’6 keeper spent four years with Fener, winning a Turkish Cup in 2022, before joining United last summer. Bayindir, the club’s first-ever Turkish player, has a contract which expires in 2027.

Now, according to Fotospor, Bayindir is keen to leave United, and Hull City are closely monitoring his situation. The Tigers have underperformed in the league this season and are expected to strengthen their squad in January.

Bayindir offered Gala escape route

Hull City president Acun Ilicali is said to be eager to bring in his fellow countryman, Bayindir served as captain of the Istanbul club before moving to Manchester, while Ilicali holds the position of vice-president at Fenerbahce.

Since his arrival in England, the 26-year-old has not yet featured in the Premier League.

While Bayindir may seek a new challenge in January or the summer, he might prefer a club competing in European tournaments over a Championship side.

But there have been stories of success where that league is concerned. Players have gone to it and then been able to restart their careers. In Turkey, it’s a lot hard to get a move to a top-five league again.
