Manchester United have been told that there is one way that they can unlock a deal for Chelsea winger Christopher Nkunku.
The France international is unhappy at Stamford Bridge but with just days left in the transfer market faces a major battle to complete the move away from the Blues to get the regular first-team football that he craves.
MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS TODAY: New Rashford replacement eyed as swap offered
Man Utd have looked a strong option for Nkunku, but they have been told the only way they could sign the versatile attacker permanently would be to strike a deal with Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho.
“Manchester United have looked into the possibility of a deal for Christopher Nkunku, but there would only be a loan,” Sky Sports News transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth reported.
“They’ve got no chance of doing a permanent deal for Nkunku. It will cost them too much money.
“But clearly, if United, and it’s a big if, did business with Chelsea for Alejandro Garnacho, they’ll already be talking then.
“And it would smooth the way for Nkunku to maybe make a move on loan to Old Trafford.”
CHELSEA TRANSFER NEWS TODAY: Offer made as Garnacho plan takes shape

What’s happening with Garnacho?
Garnacho is known to be up for sale by United, though their lofty asking price in the region of €70-80 million has so far put Napoli off after they came close to landing the Argentina international.
Chelsea have also been following his fortunes but appear to be willing to wait until the last minute before making a call over a deal – backing the Red Devils into a corner as they do so.
Ruben Amorim’s side are ready to offload Garnacho in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. The longer the deal drags out, the weaker Man Utd’s position becomes, particularly if the saga stretches to the summer.
And Sheth had a warning for United over Nkunku, too.
“He is interested in Bayern Munich as well, and they maybe have a player in Mathys Tel that Chelsea could be interested in,” he said.
Man Utd will, therefore, have to go some to land Nkunku before the transfer window closes on 3 February.
