According to Trivela, the Red Devils are locked in negotiations with Wolves and Gomes’ camp and closing on concluding a deal.

The report states that the transfer would cost Man Utd around €50 million.

Gomes is excited at the prospect of making the next step in his career after starring for Wolves in recent seasons.

Joao Gomes to Man Utd

United’s main priority in the transfer market is to sign a top central midfielder.

The centre of the park has been a problem area for United for a number of years now.

United have shortlisted a host of central midfielders, including Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

United tried to sign Baleba in the summer and this January have been considering the Ecuadorian again, along with Wharton and Anderson.

However, these three midfielders have all proven to be very difficult deals to do in January, whereas Gomes is easier to complete.

The 24-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s best-performing midfielders since joining Wolves from Flamengo in January 2023.

Gomes is known for his defensive qualities, his tackling and running, shielding the Wolves defence excellently.

United will lose their best defensive midfielder in 2026 as Casemiro’s contract expires at the end of the season and he will not sign a new deal.

Manuel Ugarte has struggled since his move from PSG and will likely be sold next summer.

Gomes’ contract at Wolves expires in 2028.
