Man Utd in double Chelsea raid after record-breaking Palmer performance

Manchester United are set to shop at Chelsea this summer as Liam Delap is now also being linked with a move to Old Trafford in addition to Cole Palmer.

The misfiring striker yet again failed to boost his numbers and his confidence on Saturday. Delap came on as a second-half substitute against rock-bottom Wolves, but he was unable to find the back of the net in his 15-minute cameo.

All told, Delap has only scored three goals for Chelsea since joining from relegated Ipswich Town ahead of the Club World Cup last summer. Just one of those goals has come in 15 Premier League outings.

Against Wolves, it was Cole Palmer who stole the show. The England star netted a first-half hat-trick to condemn the Championship-bound side to defeat. In doing so, he became the first-ever Chelsea player to score four Premier League hat-tricks.

Remarkably, though, the 23-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. As revealed on The Transfers Podcast, Palmer is frustrated with his current situation at Chelsea, and his representatives have been in touch with clubs around Europe to gauge their interest in signing him.

Man Utd want Palmer – and Delap?

FootballTransfers first broke the news that Palmer could be an option for Man Utd. He is viewed as the perfect long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes and is understood to be keen to return to the Northwest.

However, Delap could also become a target again for the Red Devils, according to TEAMtalk. Man Utd, of course, were among the clubs vying for his signature last summer.

It is claimed that the Old Trafford club are still keeping tabs on Delap. Given that he only cost just over €35 million, Chelsea would have no issue cashing in on him at the right price, especially in light of his disappointing start to life in West London.

With Emmanuel Emegha and possibly another striker joining the club in the summer, Delap’s chances of regular minutes will be limited next term, making him a potential market opportunity in the summer.

Joshua Zirkzee is surely bound to depart Man Utd after playing less than 10 minutes under Michael Carrick so far, and this would open up a spot for Delap at the Red Devils.
