The Uruguay international has missed a large chunk of the campaign with a hamstring injury, but he remains behind Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez in the pecking order at Camp Nou, and Hansi Flick is willing to offload him this summer.

That is according to Spanish publication El Nacional, who report that Barcelona will sell Araujo if his new €65 million release clause is triggered during the upcoming transfer window.

The Blaugrana are interested in signing Germany centre-back Jonathan Tah on a free transfer when his contract at Bayer Leverkusen expires at the end of June, and Araujo is now “more likely” to leave Barcelona than to stay, as per El Nacional.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a host of top European clubs over the past 12 months, amid rumours of a Barcelona exit, with Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus and Man Utd among the teams interested in signing him.

Man Utd want to sign Ronald Araujo

Man Utd have been linked with a move for Araujo for several years and Xavi has even reportedly named him as a dream transfer target for the Red Devils if he replaces Ruben Amorim as the head coach at Old Trafford this year.

The Uruguayan recently signed a new long-term contract at Barcelona until 2031, although the deal saw his release clause reduced for a whopping €1 billion down to a far more manageable fee of €65m.

While Barcelona will allow Araujo to depart if this figure is paid in full, they will not sanction a departure this summer unless his release clause is triggered.

Araujo has made 12 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring two goals, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €56.5m – just shy of his release clause.
