Manchester United are set for wholesale changes in the summer, with one €74 million star increasingly likely to find his head on the chopping block after revelations that his coaches are losing patience with him.

Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to win the faith of head coach Ruben Amorim since the Portuguese took charge in November, often finding himself on the bench.

When he has started, such as in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton, he has struggled to find the net. Indeed, the Denmark international has just two Premier League goals to his name this season.

But worse still for Hojlund, he is struggling to adapt to Amorim’s ideas, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It has been 16 games since the 22-year-old has found the net, with one unnamed coach “particularly scathing” of player’s performance in the 1-0 loss against Tottenham.

Equally, it is stressed: “United sources maintain staff are encouraging Hojlund during training sessions.”

Hojlund was replaced by Chido Obi in the weekend’s clash against Everton, and within 10 minutes of his departure, United had scored twice.

His form will be particularly frustrating for the coach, who had seen Viktor Gyokeres catch light under him with Sporting CP. The Sweden star was scoring at the rate of a goal per game for the Lisbon club when Amorim left to join United in the autumn.

Man Utd boss taking no prisoners

Amorim has already started to take a hardline approach with those who cannot fit into his plans.

This was most spectacularly seen in the case of Marcus Rashford, who spent six weeks out in the cold before being shunted on loan to Aston Villa. Amorim cited Rashford’s poor attitude towards training.

While there is no such claim levelled at Hojlund in terms of his work rate or effort, there are worries that he is simply not good enough to lead the line for the Red Devils, and his record this season only backs those feelings up.
