Man Utd make £70m Bruno Fernandes transfer decision as exit route opens

Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United remains uncertain after interest from the Saudi Pro League and now Bayern Munich have set their sights on the midfielder

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is on the radar of Bayern Munich. The Red Devils midfielder considered a move away from Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, with Saudi Pro League clubs showing particular interest.

However, he turned down lucrative offers from both Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad last summer to remain at United. With just over 18 months remaining on his contract with United, speculation about Fernandes’ future continues to swirl.

Despite being a pivotal figure in the squad since his arrival from Sporting CP, uncertainty looms. German champions Bayern are eyeing up a swoop for Fernandes, with United slapping a £70 million price tag on him.

United are open to entertaining bids for any player in their squad if the offer is right, following a colossal £236 million summer transfer splurge. Ruben Amorim was backed in the transfer market with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko arriving at Old Trafford.

United’s final standing in the current season could significantly influence Fernandes’s future. If they fail to secure a spot in the Champions League for the 2026/27 campaign, then the 31-year-old may opt to seek pastures new.

Fernandes is acutely aware that his time playing at the elite level is limited and United missed out of the Champions League one. Addressing the rumours surrounding his future during the summer transfer window, Fernandes clarified his stance on a potential move away.

“I didn’t close the door on moving to Saudi Arabia because of the World Cup,” he said. “That was never in my mind. I wanted to stay at Manchester United, and the club wanted me to stay. That’s all there is to it.”

When asked about the possibility of leaving next summer, he added: “That’s an impossible scenario to imagine, because it’s nothing that’s been discussed with me.

“When it was discussed with me, I spoke openly with you at a press conference before a Nations League match.

“I like to enjoy the moment, and the most important thing for me now is representing the national team, because it’s a source of enormous pride to be able to play tomorrow [Saturday], and I still don’t know if I’ll play, let alone if I’ll leave Manchester United in a year.

“I’m happy where I am; otherwise, I wouldn’t have stayed, but it’s something that doesn’t affect me.”
