Manchester United have reportedly decided against signing RB Leipzig superstar Xavi Simons due to his €80 million price tag.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Simons in recent months and they were expected to pursue a deal during the 2025 summer transfer window.

However, Ruben Amorim’s side are hampered by financial issues and they have now pulled out of contention to sign Simons.

That is according to GiveMeSport, who claim that Man Utd’s pursuit of the Netherlands international is a “non-starter” due to RB Leipzig’s €80m valuation.

Simons joined the Bundesliga outfit on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain for €50m in January, following 18 months on loan at the club, but he is expected to depart on a permanent deal this summer.

However, an Old Trafford switch has reportedly been ruled out, despite the fact that Amorim’s side view Simons as the perfect candidate to ease the creative burden off Bruno Fernandes.

Amorim has admitted that Man Utd will be required to sell before they can buy this summer, while the club are expected to prioritise signing a prolific new centre forward following the recent woes of both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Man Utd unlikely to sign Xavi Simons

Simons, 21, has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has risen to a career high of €69.9m.

The Dutchman has been linked with a host of top European clubs in recent months, including Arsenal and Bayern Munich, although his €80m price tag may prove to be an obstacle this summer.

However, his current deal at RB Leipzig is due to expire in 2027, meaning the Bundesliga side could be forced to offload him later this year if they want to maximise his value.
