Man Utd outcast Jadon Sancho issued with simple demand to land ideal transfer

Jadon Sancho is desperate to find a permanent home after a miserable spell at Manchester United, but will have to make sacrifices to secure a dream move in 2026

Jadon Sancho has been told to halve his £300,000-a-week wages if he wants to return to Borussia Dortmund. The German outfit are keen on re-signing Sancho for a third time next summer.

Sancho is desperate to find a club which can help him revive his career, and knows his best spells have been at Dortmund. But Dortmund bosses have made it clear his current contract is not affordable to them.

Gregor Kobel is currently Dortmund’s highest paid star, on £150,000-a-week. And Sancho would have to fall into line with the club’s wage structure, in order to seal a move back to the Bundesliga outfit.

Sancho has seen his career turn into a nightmare since joining Manchester United from Dortmund in 2021. The winger failed to make an impact and ended up returning to Dortmund on-loan in 2024, following a public bust up with then United boss Erik ten Hag.

While back at Dortmund, he helped them reach the Champions League final. Sancho spent last season on-loan at Chelsea, who refused the option of making the move permanent last summer.

Sancho is currently on loan at Aston Villa, but has struggled for game time and made just four league appearances. He knows he needs to leave English football behind once again next summer, but it remains to be seen if he is willing to reduce his wage demands.

Sancho can leave United on a free transfer in June when his contract expires, and will be able to negotiate signing on fee with a new club. He can start talking to interested clubs in January.

The winger had a successful four-year stint with Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, netting 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 137 games. It was by far the best period of his career, which was derailed by his £73million transfer to United in the summer of 2021.

He has managed just 12 goals and six assists in 83 games for United, where he fell out with Erik ten Hag and was exiled by Ruben Amorim. Things haven’t started well for him at Villa, either, with minutes hard to come by under Unai Emery.

The Villa boss even embarrassed him by substituted Sancho on and off against Manchester City in the Premier League last month. The winger faced the ignominy of entering the field in the 29th minute and being replaced by Evann Guessand after 74 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s men.

“I am so happy because his impact was good, his electricity, his skill, but then to play more than now, he’s not ready to play 90 minutes,” said Emery. “45 minutes is not easy enough for him, and I am happy and, of course, progressively, he’s getting better and better.”
