Marcus Rashford scored his first Premier League goal for Aston Villa on Wednesday in a 3-0 win over Brighton, and after the clash, Manchester United were sent a glowing loan report on the forward’s progress.

Rashford had been out of the picture under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford when he was sent on a loan deal to Villa Park.

Since moving to Birmingham, he has shown some promise, which he finally made good on at the AmEx Stadium as his finish completed a swift breakaway to give the Villans the platform to pick up a 3-0 win over Albion.

While there remains uncertainty over whether Rashford will go back to Man Utd at the end of his loan, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is certainly pleased with the striker’s progress.

Emery went public with a report on how well the 27-year-old is faring in his new surroundings.

“The most important thing is how he’s feeling,” the Spaniard said. “How he’s recovering confidence himself playing football, being focused only on football, being with his team-mates comfortable. As well, identifying and understanding our style, our demands.

“Everything with him is progressively getting better.”

Will Marcus Rashford stay at Aston Villa?

Aston Villa have yet to take a position on what they will do with Rashford at the end of the season, with Champions League qualification likely to be a vital factor in whether they are able to retain the England international forward.

They still have ongoing interest in that competition this term, with a clash against PSG in Paris to follow after they play Nottingham Forest at home on Saturday.

Rashford has good memories of playing at Parc des Princes, having helped Man Utd spring a major surprise as they knocked Les Parisiens out of the 2018/19 edition of the Champions League with a stoppage-time strike.
