Manchester United have been set an ambitious summer transfer target by owners Ineos, who wants to see a dramatic overhaul of Ruben Amorim’s squad in the summer.
Man Utd find themselves in a tight financial position with regards to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Head coach Ruben Amorim has already admitted that sales may be required before new signings are made, yet the reality he faces is something unlike any other Red Devils boss in recent years.
The Portuguese’s hopes of conducting a squad overhaul could be dashed by Ineos. The minority owners, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, want to offload as many as 10 players in the summer – with many of these faces simply not being replaced.
As such, Amorim will be given a more streamlined squad to work with in the 2025/26 campaign, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United: Who is on the transfer list?
Man Utd want at least 10 players to leave in the summer.
Four of these should be straightforward: Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are both set to retire while Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof will be released at the end of their contracts.
Permanent sales have been earmarked for loan trio Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho. This would take the total of exits to seven.
These deals will be complicated due to the large wages of the players. Rashford and Antony have impressed on loan at Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively but the salaries of both players hinder the possibility of a deal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay United to sever an agreement that is in place that would see them buy Sancho. The Red Devils would have budgeted for a sale of around €25 million but will receive just a fraction of that.
Casemiro is another player earmarked to be sold, with the Saudi Pro League a likely destination.
Doubts, too, surround Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, but Mason Mount is liable to be retained because Amorim is a fan of the former Chelsea midfielder.
United may be willing to sanction some less popular departures, such as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, but these deals are likely to be reliant on the club raising huge transfer fees from the deals. It’s hard to see the Red Devils agreeing to the transfer of either unless truly necessary.

Can Ineos really sell 10 Man Utd stars?
It’s clear that Man Utd are going into this summer in bad shape. Four of the 10 players that Ineos want to offload are obvious, but there are no clear answers on the other six.
The owners have set themselves a big goal to move on 10, one that is likely to be beyond them without making big allowances, such as settling for below-market values. Years of mismanagement in the transfer market have left them with a problem that appears to have no quick fix.
