Andre Onana naturally fielded criticism after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Lyon in the Europa League, but there was one Old Trafford star who came more severely into the firing line than the calamitous goalkeeper.
Onana had a night to forget. Following his comments prior to the match, he was booed by the Lyon crowd and was culpable of errors on both goals the French side.
But despite the errors of the Cameroon international, Rasmus Hojlund’s performance only seemed to further condemn the Denmark forward to the Man Utd scrapheap.
L’Equipe gave the striker a score of just 2/10 and offered the following analysis of his performance: “Hojlund brought absolutely nothing to his team. He only touched the ball nine times and was easily shut down by the Lyon defence before giving way to Zirkzee.”
One of those nine occasions was arguably Man Utd’s best chance of a first half that finished 1-1 courtesy of Leny Yoro’s reaction header.
Hojlund had previously spurned an easier opportunity, scuffing a high-quality cutback miserably wide after the endeavours of the Red Devils’ sole January addition Patrick Dorgu down the left.
By contrast, Onana scored 3/10.

Man Utd fans back Matic over Onana criticism
Naturally, though, Onana attracted criticism after dismissing Lyon prior to kick-off.
“I think we’re better than them. We just have to go out there and show who we are,” he said in comments that had a little more context to them than the line that was used to stir the passions of the hosts.
Nevertheless, Onana, who also said Lyon were a good side, was branded “one of the worst goalkeepers in the recent history of Manchester United” by Nemanja Matic.
His two errors only served to backup the point of the former Man Utd midfielder, who was even defended by fans of the Red Devils on social media as he posted after the game.
Matic showed there are no hard feelings as he posted an image of him and some of the Red Devils’ backroom staff with the message: “Nice to see my brothers again.”
The most liked comment on the image is: “Bro you were right, Onana is really zero …”
While the second was a response to those claiming Matic was bad-mouthing United: “Respect Matic, he only hates Andre Onana, not United!”
Man Utd face Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League clash next Thursday, with Onano and Hojlund both in grave danger of being dropped.
