Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has hinted that he will not be leaving Old Trafford before the winter transfer window closes on 2 February.
The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a mid-season departure in recent months and a move to AS Roma was widely expected to take place before the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
However, talks over a move back to Serie A stalled following Amorim’s departure and Roma opted to bolster their attacking ranks with the signings of Donyell Malen and Robinio Vaz instead of continuing their pursuit of Zirkzee.
As a result, rumours of a winter exit have died down over the past few weeks and Zirkzee now looks set to stay at Old Trafford until at least this summer, despite reports that Juventus could pursue a last-minute deal.
The Dutchman has only started four Premier League matches so far this season and it has been claimed that he is eager to leave Man Utd in search of more regular game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup. However, his latest comments suggest that he will not depart Michael Carrick’s side before the end of Deadline Day.
Joshua Zirkzee transfer hint
Zirkzee hasn’t featured since the FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on 11 January due to injury, but he has now returned to first-team training and could feature against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Man Utd’s official website ahead of the match, Zirkzee said: “I’m feeling good. I should be back very soon.
“It’s always frustrating [to get injured] but it is what it is and you can’t change anything about it. So you just have to keep moving forward and that is what I am doing now.”
When asked about working with Carrick, Zirkzee added: “Yeah, I can’t wait. Especially after, you know, seeing the game against City, seeing the guys play the way they did, it just makes you want to be on the pitch and just help the team.
“So I’m looking very forward to being back with the guys.”
As a result, it appears as though Zirkzee is unlikely to leave Man Utd before the winter window closes at 19:00 BST on Monday evening.
