The Red Devils have endured a miserable 2024-25 campaign so far and they are now in advanced talks to appoint Sansoni as a senior data analyst at the club, according to The Daily Mail.

Sansoni is currently a senior performance simulation engineer at Mercedes, but the eight-time Constructors Championship winners are understood to have sanctioned his departure and are reportedly aiding with the logistics of the move.

INEOS, who purchased a minority stake at Old Trafford in February 2024 and now oversee all footballing activity, are also one-third shareholders of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team and they view Sansoni’s switch to Man Utd as “a move between the family,” as per The Daily Mail.

Mercedes are currently second in the Constructors standings after four Grands Prix in 2025, with George Russell picking up three podiums so far this season and 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli impressing in his debut campaign in F1.

Man Utd to appoint Michael Sansoni

The imminent appointment of Sansoni comes amid Man Utd’s worst season in Premier League history.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, their 14th league loss of the campaign, and the result confirmed they will end the season with their worst ever points tally in the Premier League era.

Man Utd currently sit on 38 points from their opening 32 English top flight matches this term and even if they win each of their remaining six matches, they will be unable to better their tally of 58 points from 2021-22.

They are also extremely likely to finish in the bottom-half of the Premier League table for the first time in history.

Ruben Amorim’s arrival hasn’t helped their fortunes and Man Utd will hope the appointment of Sansoni will aid them next season.
