Manchester United have added more names to their transfer shortlist as they look to restructure their midfield in anticipation of another busy summer.
The Red Devils could find themselves playing Champions League football next season after a reversal in form under Michael Carrick which has seen United rise to fourth in the Premier League table.
United are expected to make wholesale changes to their squad this summer, particularly in midfield, with Casemiro set to depart upon the expiry of his contract, while offers are expected to be invited for Manuel Ugarte.
Speculation has also grown over Bruno Fernandes’ future, with Bayern Munich among the sides that could test United’s resolve with a big money offer for their captain.
The situation could leave United looking for at least two midfielders as replacements and the club’s interest in their ideal targets such as Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have been well-documented.
However, with a desire to also strengthen at left wing as well as in defence and the club’s top targets set to command at least €70 million each, United may be forced to look towards cheaper or less obvious targets.
Nmecha and Onana enter Man Utd thoughts for summer transfer
According to Sky Germany, United will consider a move for Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha as the 25-year-old enters the final two years of his contract, having also explored a deal for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.
Nmecha is seen as a cheaper option to a player such as Anderson, whom Nottingham Forest have placed a €90m asking price on, with Dortmund expected to demand closer to €60m for their midfielder, while Goretzka will be available on a free once his contract expires in June.
Meanwhile, Football Insider report that Amadou Onana has continued to be monitored by United, having previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford prior to his €60m transfer from Everton in 2024.
While Onana is not expected to be the club’s top target, United may look to splash out on a Premier League midfielder and potentially supplement their signing with a player like Goretzka on a free to bolster their squad ahead of a potential return to Europe.
