De Telegraaf’s Mike Verweij thinks that Brian Brobbey will make Ajax an awful lot of money.

The 21-year-old striker was acquired in the summer of 2022 for €16.35 million from RB Leipzig, who had picked him up on a free transfer from Ajax a year earlier. This season, Brobbey has become one of the absolute standouts and proves his importance to his team almost every week.

“The best thing that can happen to Ajax is that several English top clubs come in for him,” Verweij begins on the Kick-off podcast about Brobbey.

“That happened with Micky van de Ven, do you know him?” the Dutch reporter then jokingly asks presenter Pim Sedee. Van de Ven switched from VfL Wolfsburg to Tottenham Hotspur last summer for a whopping €40m.

‘The price will go up automatically’

“With Van de Ven, Liverpool and Spurs suddenly started showing interest, so then the price goes up. Then you can sit back like Kelvin de Lang, who is now doing the transfers at Ajax. The price will go up automatically,” Verweij continues.

“I think he will really yield a lot.” Brobbey has scored an impressive 17 goals and record four assists in 27 games this season. The 21-year-old is still under contract at Ajax until 2027.

It was recently announced that Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are once again eyeing the striker and would like to bring him to Old Trafford this month, but Ajax are not prepared to sell this winter and Brobbey has already dismissed the links.

Earlier, in December, a report also claimed that Newcastle United had become interested in the one-time Dutch international. In addition to Brobbey, Ivan Toney‘s name has also been shortlisted by the club management in Manchester.

The Brentford striker has just returned from a suspension for illegal gambling and played his first game of the season a week and a half ago against Nottingham Forest (3-2 win). The 27-year-old Englishman immediately managed to score. Last season, Toney, who is with the Bees until 2025, scored 21 goals and notched five assists in 35 games.
