Manchester United could make a surprise approach to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils contemplated a move for the England international last summer, but eventually opted to land Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Sesko has had an average start to the campaign with only two goals thus far, and he could be sidelined after picking up an injury at Tottenham Hotspur.

Amidst this, it is claimed that the club could make an approach for their former graduate in Welbeck, who has been in exceptional form lately.

The 34-year-old has bagged an impressive six goals in the Premier League thus far and this has led to calls over a potential England call-up.

His current deal at Brighton expires at the end of the season, but there is a possibility that United could seek to land him for a nominal fee in January.

If Welbeck arrives, Joshua Zirkzee could be allowed to depart. The Dutchman has been pushing for a move through his representatives.
