Manchester United could make a surprise move to land Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta during the ongoing transfer window.
The Frenchman has decided to pursue a new challenge away from the south London outfit and has already informed his stance to the hierarchy.
Juventus and Aston Villa have had bids rejected for the former Mainz man, but there is anticipation that Palace will eventually sanction his sale.
Palace wanted around £40 million for the striker last summer, and they could be tempted to contemplate his departure for £30m with his contract expiring in June next year.
United have been credited with an interest in the past and could make a surprise swoop for his services, suppose Joshua Zirkzee were to leave for Roma or Juventus in the near future.
The Serie A duo are keen on signing him on loan with a buy obligation. This could pave the way for United to land Mateta, who has netted 10 goals in the ongoing season for the Eagles.
