Manchester United are contemplating a late winter move for Everton midfielder James Garner.
The Red Devils recently dismissed Ruben Amorim from the head coach position, and they have appointed Michael Carrick as their interim manager.
Carrick could be backed with funds to bolster their squad this winter and a low-cost acquisition could be targeted by the Mancunian giants.
Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves has been heavily linked with the Red Devils, given his current contract expires at the end of the season.
He could be prised away for £18 million, but there is a stumbling block with the Portuguese said to be prioritising a Champions League side.
Furthermore, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man may want a significant salary of £250,000 per week which United may not match.
Amidst this, Garner has emerged as a fallback option for the Red Devils.
His current deal expires in June, but the Toffees have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months.
United are closely monitoring his situation, and could swoop for his services if Garner snubs a renewal.
He could be available for a fee of around £20m this winter.
