Manchester United could sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck in January after a deadline day setback, according to Football Transfers.
The Red Devils looked into a late deal for the England international this summer. They made an approach on Monday, but Brighton had no time to find a replacement.
United have now agreed on personal terms with their former graduate and they are likely to make a proposal for his services when the transfer window reopens this winter.
Welbeck’s current deal expires at the end of the campaign, and the Seagulls could be tempted to accept a nominal fee for his exit during the January transfer window.
The 34-year-old is unlikely to play regularly for the Red Devils, but he could be a good deputy for Benjamin Sesko now that Rasmus Hojlund has left on a loan deal.
Napoli have signed the Dane on loan with a buy option which will become mandatory if certain conditions are met this campaign.
