Man Utd told to recall Rasmus Hojlund from Napoli after ‘driving everyone crazy’

Rasmus Hojlund has found some excellent form for Napoli since his loan move to Manchester United but some believe he should be back at Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window

Manchester United should recall Rasmus Hojlund following his stunning Napoli form, according to Red Devils favourite Teddy Sheringham. The Danish striker joined the Serie A side on loan in the summer.

They have an option to buy that will become an obligation should Antonio Conte’s side seal a spot in next season’s Champions League. Hojlund is trying his hardest to help with that with 10 goals to his name in all competitions, a record that includes a strike in Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Chelsea.

Asked if United should consider recalling Hojlund, former striker Sheringham said to MrQ: “Yes, I do. I believe that things change very quickly at football clubs, especially when there’s different people in charge of those football clubs.

“Who knows what relationship Michael Carrick has with players like Rasmus Højlund? He might have a way of getting the best out of him. He’s already on the books at the football club, so Højlund will come into Carrick’s equation in the summer.

“I don’t care what’s gone on before, he’s obviously a top footballer, otherwise he wouldn’t have got to Manchester United in the first place. So I would say bring him back in, let’s give him a chance to see where he’s at and see where his mindset is when he comes back.

“We need to find out if he has still got the fire in his belly to play for Manchester United? Does he think he’s good enough himself? Does he want it? You go from there.

“Like I’ve said, things change very quickly in football. There’s a different manager in charge now, and there could be another different one in the summer who has a whole new outlook, so why not?”

Sheringham is not the only one to have suggested that Hojlund would be a good fit for United. Former Napoli star Gianfranco Zola recently revealed that the Dane had been driving club chiefs ‘crazy’ with his performances in Serie A.

“Hojlund is driving everyone crazy, even people at Manchester United,” Zola told Gazzetta dello Sport last month. “After McTominay left because of [Erik] ten Hag’s reckless decisions, they let go of a striker like that.”

Napoli’s chances of reaching next season’s Champions League were hit with a blow this week after they failed to qualify for the next stage of this year’s iteration. They do however remain fourth in Serie A, one point above Juventus.

Hojlund will be aiming to extend his impressive Napoli form this weekend as Antonio Conte’s side take on Fiorentina at home.
