Manchester United could swoop for the services of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The Red Devils were determined to bolster the holding midfield department last summer. They explored a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, but they were put off by the £115 million price tag.
Brighton have no plans of parting ways with Baleba in January and United now need to wait until next summer to secure a deal. Amidst this, it is claimed that the club are keen on signing Hjulmand from Sporting instead.
Hjulmand was a standout in the number six role at Sporting under manager Ruben Amorim, and a reunion could be on the cards next winter.
Sporting are willing to sell him for around £50 million. It remains to be seen whether United are prepared to meet the reported price tag.
Juventus are also admirers of the former Lecce man, but are unlikely to meet the price. They were reluctant to pay more than £35m last summer.
