Mason Greenwood‘s team-mates at Manchester United have reportedly backed his potential return to the squad this summer.

The forward, 22, was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew.

Greenwood is on loan from Manchester United at La Liga side Getafe, who are open to a transfer or another loan, however new reports suggest that Manchester United’s squad are not opposed to him returning.

According to The SunMan United‘s players are not against the forward re-joining the squad.

The report claims that a poll was conducted by the Man United dressing room, with players said to have offered their support for Greenwood to return.

Mail Sport understands that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will make the final decision on Greenwood’s future.

A source told The Sun, ‘His team-mates would not be against him returning to Old Trafford.

‘They know all about the background and understand how controversial it would be to have him back. Their decision is a footballing one, pure and simple.

‘United have struggled to score goals this season and they need a player like Mason.

‘They’re watching him score and create goals for Getafe every week.’ said the source.

In an interview last month, new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted that the possibility for Greenwood’s return was not entirely closed.

Asked if a fresh decision would be made on Greenwood Ratcliffe replied last month: ‘Yes, absolutely. We will make a decision and we will justify it.

‘He’s a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football.’

Nonetheless, his potential return could spark internal dissent, notably from the women’s team, who are reportedly opposed to the idea.
