After initially being considered very likely to extend his contract with Bayern Munich beyond the summer of 2026, Manuel Neuer’s future at the club is now far less certain.

According to Bild’s Bayern Insider podcast, it is completely “50-50” whether the 39-year-old goalkeeper will sign a new deal.

The report states that a decision on Neuer’s future is expected in the spring following the veteran’s 40th birthday in March.

Neuer is currently sidelined with a torn muscle fiber, which means he will miss Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against 1. FC Heidenheim.

Jonas Urbig widely expected to be Neuer’s long-term successor at the Allianz Arena is set to start in goal for the match.
