Asensio, who joined PSG last summer, has been displaying a remarkable run of form after missing several matches due to injury. Following his outstanding display at Stade de la Meinau, Asensio has been consistently contributing to goals in the league this season, averaging one goal every 73 minutes.
He has scored four goals and provided two assists in 440 minutes, which is, on average, his most prolific in a league season thus far. This surpasses his previous record with Real Madrid in the 2019-20 campaign, where he averaged one goal every 84 minutes.

Before injuring his foot while playing for La Roja on September 8, Asensio had an impressive start to the season, contributing two goals and an assist in three matches.
Asensio returned to action in late November but only played a few minutes towards the end of 2023, totaling 58 minutes in five matches. Since the beginning of 2024, he has already netted three goals: one in the Coupe de France against Revel and two in Ligue 1 against Brest and Strasbourg.
In a recent press conference, manager Luis Enrique highlighted Asensio’s characteristics and importance to the squad.
“He has a different profile compared to our other strikers, Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos. On the left flank, with his natural foot, he can make runs towards the outside. He can also add control between the lines and offer a different option up front.”

Asensio’s skills also extend to breaking defensive lines with precision passes, particularly unleashing Kylian Mbappé with passes between the lines or over the top. Their synergy on the field is a complementary partnership, amplifying each other’s strengths, as Asensio has provided six key passes to PSG’s No. 7.
With his goal against Strasbourg, Asensio has now scored four goals out of six shots on target and 12 shots attempted in the league. Only Kamory Doumbia and Randal Kolo Muani have a better record among players with a minimum of four goals (five goals out of seven shots on target).
The Spanish player’s inclusion in the starting lineup will be highly beneficial for PSG as they gear up for their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup against Real Sociedad, the first leg of which is on February 14 at the Parc des Princes.
