Ruben Amorim decided to leave Rashford out of his squad for the match at Old Trafford after the attacker’s controversial interview with Henry Winter earlier this week.

Marcus Rashford admitted on Tuesday that he is “ready for a new challenge” amid rumours that he will leave Manchester United in 2025.

The 27-year-old was excluded from the Red Devils’ matchday squad to face Manchester City last Sunday and he has been heavily linked with a departure over the past few weeks.

Rashford followed up that exclusion against City – which United won 2-1 – with an interview with Henry Winter two days later where he stated that he wanted to leave the club.

What Marcus Rashford said?

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” Rashford told Henry Winter after returning to his old primary school, Button Lane.

“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

Rashford continued: “I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now. I’ve had nine years so far in the Premier League and that’s taught me a lot, that’s helped me grow as a player and as a person.

“So I don’t have any regrets from the last nine years. I won’t have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, sometimes good things happen. I just try and keep a fine balance.”

Amorim has now responded to Rashford’s actions by leaving him out of the squad for the match against Bournemouth.

When asked for his reasons for dropping Rashford again, Amorim replied: “It is my decision, and it always will be. I want to see the best of my players, and then I try different things with different players, so that is my focus.”

This omission will further fuel reports that Rashford will be sold in January.

Ruben Amorim is reportedly eager for Rashford to be sold and the Portuguese tactician is keen to trim down the first-team squad at Old Trafford when the January transfer window opens.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have both been touted as possible destinations for Rashford, as have Saudi Pro League clubs.
