Marcus Rashford missed a massive opportunity in normal time before Manchester United secured a dramatic extra-time victory in their FA Cup clash with Liverpool.

United took the lead early at Old Trafford through Scott McTominay but were pegged back on the brink of half-time after goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah.

Erik ten Hag‘s side persevered however, and substitute Antony fired home in the closing stages to draw the hosts level.

With the back-and-forth clash heading towards extra-time, Christian Eriksen found Rashford with an inch-perfect through ball that split the Liverpool back line deep into stoppage time.

The England international deftly brought the ball down onto his right foot, but his subsequent effort left a lot to be desired as it trailed harmlessly wide of Caoimhin Kelleher’s post

Though it appeared Rashford has squandered a chance to move his team into the semi-finals of the FA Cup, further review revealed that even if his strike had been on target it may not have stood.

Replays showed Rashford may have been fractionally offside when the through ball was played, potentially sparing Liverpool from what would have surely been a fatal blow.

The United forward missed another chance in extra-time as Liverpool wrestled back control of the contest courtesy of a deflected strike from Harvey Elliot.

Rashford continued hunting for a goal however, and finally put the ball in the back of the net in the second half of extra-time to once again bring United level.

Yet further drama was still to come and Amad Diallo scored a winner in the last minute of extra-time to book United’s place at Wembley into the FA Cup semi-finals next month.
