Marcus Rashford STARTS for Man United against Wolves… as the forward is involved for the first time since missing training due to 12-hour Belfast tequila bender

  • Rashford hasn’t been involved in a squad since the incident took place last week
  • Manager Erik ten Hag has regularly refused to address the events in the media

Marcus Rashford has been named in the starting line-up for Manchester United for the first time since his boozy outing that meant he missed the FA Cup win over Newport.

United take on Wolves in the Premier League this evening, their first league match since January 14, when they drew 2-2 with Tottenham.

Rashford is involved in a United squad for the first time after footage emerged on social media last week showing the United forward entering the Thompsons Garage nightclub in Belfast, before missing a training session at Carrington on Friday morning.

Rashford was out in Ireland on both Wednesday and Thursday, and called in sick for training on Friday having been seen in Northern Ireland just hours before he was due to report for training.

And now he is set to feature for United against Wolves, starting up front alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho as Erik ten Hag‘s side look to keep tabs on the European places in the league table.

Ten Hag has regularly refused to address any questions relating to Rashford in the media, branding the incident an ‘internal matter’

Ten Hag had stated that the official reason for his absence was due to ‘illness’ with reports claiming Rashford had gone on a ’12-hour tequila bender’ and had subsequently angered several of his team-mates after being absent from training.

The forward has now ‘taken responsibility’ for the incident, while former United captain Roy Keane has urged Rashford to focus on his football.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Keane said: ‘We talk about him [Marcus Rashford], he’s a young lad, lots of pressure and he’s local, but it doesn’t look like he’s enjoying his football anymore.

‘It goes hand in hand, what is happening off the pitch and on it.

‘Football looks like it’s a chore to him, and it shouldn’t be. There’s pressure on everybody there, but he’s a big player for Manchester United. He’s shown before that he can produce.

He added on Rashford, who tops the list of Premier League stars with the most expensive car collection: ‘The cars, the watches, all that is great, but don’t forget what comes first – your football.’

When United played Wolves away from home last season, the 26-year-old was dropped to the bench prior to the clash for oversleeping, before scoring and redeeming himself later in the game.

The Red Devils will jump to seventh in the table with victory, though could themselves be leapfrogged by Wolves and slip to 10th if the result doesn’t go their way.

Elsewhere in the team, Andre Onana is back in goal having returned from the African Cup of Nations.
