Marcus Rashford still wants to play for Manchester United and is available for selection, sources have revealed.

Rashford’s future at his boyhood club is up in the air as talks over a loan move continue with a number of teams led by Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Juventus.

But the 27-year-old England forward hasn’t played for United in nine games since head coach Ruben Amorim axed him for the Manchester derby last month over the player’s performance in training.

However, it’s understood that Rashford has been putting in extra training to keep fit during his absence and is available to play against Rangers in the Battle of Britain tie at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

He is believed to have been working out at Carrington on Sunday while his teammates were preparing to face Brighton, and has been using a private fitness coach.

Sources say he has no issue with Amorim and is ready to give 100 per cent for the team.

Amorim stood by his decision in the wake of Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton and refused to blame Rashford for United’s dismal run of results.

‘Guys, like you said it’s his choice,’ said Amorim. ‘In the last games that we lost, Rashford was not here. So I don’t want to put this moment on Rashford.

‘Rashford is out of this moment because he’s not playing. No matter what, I’m not going to put (in) a player that I don’t believe is the best for the team.’

Although Rashford said last month that he is ‘ready for a new challenge and the next steps’ in his career, he has not ruled out extending a 20-year association with United.

However, the club want to shift his £315,000-a-week salary off their wage bill to help comply with profit and sustainability rules.

A move to Saudi Arabia would have made sense but Rashford rejected offers of up to £35million-a-year because he wants to play in a competitive league that will give him an opportunity to regain his place in the England squad.

Talks have taken place with some of Europe’s top clubs over a deal that would see Rashford go out on loan this month and then complete a permanent move in the summer, but United would have to subsidise some of his wages.
