Inter President Beppe Marotta notes that Cristian Chivu’s history with their colours is ‘something modern clubs ought to cultivate’ and that their objectives have not changed with this new coach.

The Nerazzurri had hoped to continue next season with Simone Inzaghi, but he resigned after the 5-0 Champions League Final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, meaning they had to rush to find a replacement before the Club World Cup starts next week.

They chose Chivu, who was both a player for this team that won the Treble and spent most of his coaching career in their youth academy.

“We are proud to have secured an historic name for Inter to the role of coach,” Marotta told reporters at a book event in Milan this evening.

“I think that this is something modern clubs ought to cultivate, because there are many positive values tied up within this character. We are satisfied and happy.”

The Nerazzurri ended this season empty-handed after four years of gathering trophies with Inzaghi, so what are their objectives for the next season now that Chivu has come in?

“The usual, those dictated by the history of a club like Inter,” replied the President.

“We participate in competitions to win, then if someone does better, as happened this year, we tip our hats to them. However, we must again remind people that reaching the top is not easy. Not many managed that in recent years.”
