Mason Greenwood gave Manchester United a timely reminder of his on-field talents on Saturday as the scored an outstanding goal for Getafe against Almeria in LaLiga.

It was his fourth goal of the season since moving to Spain and his second in LaLiga. It was also undoubtedly his most spectacular as he cut in from the right and sent a shot of incredible ferocity into the top corner of the goal.

Having also registered three assists, Greenwood promises to give incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe a headache over what to do with him if he continues such form.

Man Utd, after all, effectively banished the 22-year-old to Spain after an internal investigation over his conduct in his private life. This arrived after a police investigation into attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour – charges that Greenwood denied – were dropped following the withdrawal of a key witness.

In a confusing statement that arrived after months of studying the case, the Red Devils appeared to exonerate the striker of blame while also indicating that he was no longer fit to represent the club.

Will Mason Greenwood play for Man Utd again?

The expectation is that Greenwood will continue his career away from Manchester United, even if he continues his strong Getafe form.

The Athletic reports that although the club did not completely rule out a return for the player, he is completing a period of rehabilitation on loan in Spain and will be sold thereafter.

Greenwood’s time at Getafe, meanwhile, could be extended. Talks are already planned for April and it seems that there is an appetite for him to remain at the club.

Man Utd face a potential problem in the summer with the striker, though. He is out of contract in 2025, meaning that he will realistically need to be sold in 2024 to receive any kind of transfer fee. Greenwood does have an optional year on his deal, but United would face unwanted scrutiny if they were to trigger it.
