Mathenia suffers injury scare in training camp

The Mainz native has picked up a knock at their Süd Tyrol training camp in Italy.

Christian Mathenia could be set for a spell on the sidelines, a social media post from 1.FC Nürnberg announced.

The veteran shot-stopper suffered a capsule ligament tear in the joint of his little finger at training. 

One positive from the Bavarian club’s perspective is that a x-ray scan was taken which ruled out fears of a fracture.

Nürnberg have stated that Mathenia will be tested during the further course of the training camp to see if he can train pain-free. 

The 33-year-old has made over 146 appearances for the 2.Bundesliga club since joining from Hamburg SV in 2018.
