Mathias Honsak shared his thoughts with the media after Heidenheim secured a precious point in a 2-2 stalemate away to RB Leipzig.

The Austrian forward expressed his happiness after his sublime 6th-minute strike which gave Frank Schmidt’s side an early lead.

“Today everything just worked out. I said earlier that the ball would either go over the stadium roof or hit the corner.

“I’m glad that the ball hit the corner. I hit the ball superbly, just like you should hit a volley. I’ve had situations like this in training a few times and I’m glad that it worked in the game today,” he smiled.

The 28-year-old felt somewhat annoyed that he and his Heidenheim teammates couldn’t hang on for victory, but was proud of their efforts

“We wanted to be aggressive today and be clean in defense. The fact that we then took a 2-0 lead was all the better.

“Of course it was a bit bitter to concede a goal just before half-time. But I’m still very happy and proud of the team that we didn’t let that get us down. It’s a great point for us today,” Honsak concluded.

Currently resting in 16th-place, Heidenheim will look to stun Borussia Mönchengladbach next weekend at the Voith Arena on Matchday 24.
