Matildas star Emily Van Egmond and her partner Kat have taken to Instagram to make the exciting announcement that they are expecting a baby.

The pair stood in what appeared to be a park and were pictured gazing into each other’s eyes as Kat held up several pictures of her scans.

‘Baby Van Egmond coming October,’ they captioned the post.

Emily’s team-mates quickly dropped in to congratulate the pair on the huge news.

Mary Fowler wrote: ‘Congrats to you both!!’

While Matildas captain, Sam Kerr, who is also due to welcome a baby with her partner Kristie Mewis in the coming months, wrote: ‘Let’s goooooo.’

Emily and Kat were wed in December at a lavish ceremony that took place at a winery in the Krinklewood Estate in New South Wales‘ Hunter Valley.

Kat, who has now taken her partner’s surname, stunned in a beautiful white dress, as Emily, 31, donned a sleek black dinner jacket with a bow tie.

The pair were joined by Kerr and several other footy stars, including Katie McCabe and Caitlin Foord for the ceremony, while Kerr and her father Roger also attended alongside Mewis.

Emily popped the question to Kat last June, sharing the news on Instagram by publishing a series of pictures of themselves beaming from ear-to-ear on a beach in San Diego, California.

Kat had joked: ‘I’m married to football now,’ while adding she had ‘no clue’ and was left ‘crying’ by her partner’s proposal.

Emily recently featured for Australia in their victories against South Korea.

She notably set up Fowler for their first goal in their 2-0 win last Monday.

‘Congrats,’ the Matildas official Instagram account commented.

Emily, 31, is currently playing for Birmingham City in the English Women’s Championship having moved to the club from San Diego Wave at the start of the 2025 season.

Birmingham City Women’s Instagram account also wished the couple congraulations, commenting: ‘Congratulations to you both!’

Emily and Kat are understood to have met after the Matildas star moved to San Diego.

Kat, a photographer, had been living on the West Coast of America.

In April 2023, they shared snaps of each other on social media, announcing their relationship publicly for the first time.

Emily told New Idea: ‘I feel like she brings out a really good side of me. I’m very happy.’

Earlier this year, Emily rubbished calls for Sam Kerr to relinquish the Matildas armband after questions were raised over her captaincy credentials.

The Chelsea forward had been found not guilty of the alleged racially aggravated harassment of a British police officer.

While some, including Footy personality Sam Newman had questioned whether Kerr should retain the captaincy, many of her team-mates rallied around her.

‘No, she definitely should not be stepping down,’ van Egmond said.

It comes as Football Australia said they would not be taking any action against Kerr following her high-profile court case.

‘The federation (FA) has come out and said what they need to say, and obviously Sammy had her side to say as well.

‘As teammates and a team, we’re in full support for her.’
