Mbappe leads PSG past Toulouse in Trophee des Champions

Paris Saint-Germain‘s first-half display against Toulouse was enough for them to win the Trophee des Champions for the 12th time in their history.

The 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes came thanks to first-half goals from Lee Kang-in and Kylian Mbappe.

PSG start strongly

PSG started the game in exactly the manner that you would expect and it took them just three minutes to get in front.

A great ball from Vitinha found Ousmane Dembele on the right wing who went to the byline and pulled it across the box where Lee was waiting to place it into the bottom corner.

He looked thrilled to have scored on a cup final for his new team, and it set the tone for the rest of the evening.

PSG were a constant threat in the first half and could really be accused of overplaying, as it should not have taken until the latter stages of the half for them to double their lead.

It came from a likely source, as Mbappe danced inside three Toulouse defenders and brilliantly fired into the far corner. It was no less than the Ligue 1 champions deserved.

A drab second half in Paris

Toulouse had a bit more joy at the start of the second half as PSG took a while to get back into their groove, but they soon did and Luis Enrique‘s side were applying near-constant pressure to the Toulouse goal.

The game hit a serious lull in which neither team was able to create any real chances, but new life was breathed into the stadium when Enrique introduced new signing Lucas Beraldo. The 20-year-old has just signed from Sao Paulo and his every touch was cheered.

That proved to arguably be the most interesting part of the second half as PSG seemed happy to see the game out without offering anything in attack, whilst Toulouse lacked the belief and quality to drag themselves back into things.
