Weston McKennie’s agent has hit out at ‘lies and propaganda’ about contract renewal talks with Juventus and a potential move to MLS.

The midfielder is only tied to the club until June 2026 and negotiations for a new deal have not progressed.

This prompted reports from amongst others transfer pundit Matteo Moretto suggesting the delays were due to agent commissions, freezing the talks entirely, and with the likelihood of a free transfer to Major League Soccer.

However, his representative took to social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, to denounce these rumours.

“I normally don’t respond to social media posts, but when false information is being spread, especially from verified handles, I have to intervene,” wrote Cory Gibbs.

“This is Weston’s agent and I can confirm everything below is FALSE. Know your facts before spreading lies and propaganda.”

The fact remains that McKennie is out of contract at the end of the season, so within a few days will be able to begin talks with other clubs for a free transfer in July.

It is not just MLS who might be interested, as AC Milan and Roma were both also linked to keep the USMNT midfielder in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has been in European football since 2016 at Schalke 04, Juventus and a brief loan spell at Leeds United.
