McTominay frustrated by ‘unacceptable’ Napoli draw: ‘We should have won that’ – Football Italia

Scott McTominay cut a frustrated figure when analysing Napoli’s 1-1 draw against Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night, which has left the Partenopei in 23rd place in the league phase table with just one game left to play.

The Scotland international was on the scoresheet once again, sending Napoli into a 1-0 lead less than four minutes after Thomas Delaney had been sent off for the hosts. A second-half strike from Jordan Larsson, however, meant that Napoli had to settle for a point against the 10-man Copenhagen.

“We should have won that game, it’s unacceptable,” a frustrated McTominay told Sky Sport Italia after full-time. “We should have scored the second and third goals to close out the game, even if it was a difficult surface. It’s really disappointing that we didn’t.”

Napoli are still without Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Amir Rrahmani and David Neres were also unavailable through injury on Tuesday night.

When asked if the injury pile-up is causing issues, McTominay said: “We’ve had a lot of injuries, it’s rare, but we’ve still tried to improve game by game. The subs have come on and done well, but we have to do even better.”

Next up for Napoli in the Champions League is a test against Chelsea, which is Napoli’s final chance to secure qualification to the play-off rounds.

“Obviously this game has just ended and we have to look at the mistakes and try to improve. Chelsea are an excellent team. We have to try and give everything to improve in the Champions League as well. We have to be at our best.”
