McTominay injury update for Napoli and likely course of action for Week 25

Scott McTominay is unlikely to feature in Napoli’s upcoming Coppa Italia quarter-final against Como, as they hope to get him fully fit for the big Serie A match with Roma.

The Scotland international scored a long-range scorcher in yesterday’s 3-2 victory over Genoa, but pulled up clutching the back of his thigh.

He was substituted at half-time and Antonio Conte said that it was not a new injury, but rather the recurring inflammation of a tendon.

McTominay recurring injury identified

According to Il Mattino newspaper and Calciomercato.com, the inflammation regards the femoral bicep, the semi-tendon and the semi-membrane in that area.

Considering it is an inflammation, the best course of action is rest, so it is very unlikely McTominay will be risked for Tuesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final against Como.

That kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Tuesday at 20.00 GMT (21.00 CET).

There aren’t many alternatives available, but Conte could simply drop Eljif Elmas into a midfield role instead, packing the trident attack with January signings Giovane and Alisson Santos.

Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, Billy Gilmour, David Neres and Giovanni Di Lorenzo are all out of action, with Matteo Politano, Pasquale Mazzocchi and Romelu Lukaku not fully fit.

Napoli need to focus their attention on Serie A, where next weekend there is a head-to-head with Roma, and Juan Jesus will be suspended for that tie.
