Scott McTominay could make a spectacular return to Manchester United just two years after leaving Old Trafford for Napoli, according to a report.
McTominay departed Man Utd for €30.5 million in the summer of 2024 but after proving a roaring success as he led Antonio Conte’s side to the Serie A title, he is already being linked with a return to the Premier League.
The Scotland international became a goal-scoring machine for Napoli in 2024/25, netting 12 top-flight strikes as the Azzurri claimed their fourth national title. His achievements were recognised as he finished 18th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or – something that appeared unthinkable when he was cut loose from his boyhood club for what proved a bargain fee.
McTominay’s electric form has seen Premier League clubs take note, with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur both considering a move for the 28-year-old box-crashing midfielder.
However, Man Utd are also monitoring his performances in Naples, Caught Offside reports.
An unnamed source reports on the rumours linking McTominay with a move back to Manchester: ““There is concrete interest in Scott McTominay. Manchester United would have him back and keep an eye on Newcastle and Tottenham. Barcelona also view him as someone who could be a good fit for their midfield.”
Napoli do not want McTominay to leave and, as such, have refused to put a price tag on the player.
His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €55.3m – nearly twice the fee that Man Utd sold him for.
Will McTominay leave Napoli?
It is unlikely that McTominay will be making the move back to Old Trafford, despite the transfer interest, CaughtOffside reports.
“Unless Napoli decide they could be prepared to cash in on a tempting offer for the 28-year-old, then he’ll be going nowhere for the time being,” it states.
McTominay has commented only briefly on the possibility of leaving Napoli next summer, despite the increasing transfer rumours.
AreaNapoli quote him as having told Sky Sport Italia: “I’m really happy at Napoli.”
