Arteta on Tomiyasu’s substitution vs Wolves

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that he does not know the reason behind Takehiro Tomiyasu‘s decision to come off the field against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Japan international had another top-class performance in the Premier League and he provided the assist for Bukayo Saka‘s opening goal against Gary O’Neil’s side today.

The right-back continued to impress from the right-back position, but he was substituted in the back end. Speaking after the game, Arteta said that he did not want to take a risk with him.

He said: “I don’t know, he felt something, I don’t know if it was fatigue, we decided to change straight away with him, we didn’t want to take any risk. Let’s assess how he is.”

The Gunners extended their lead to the top of the Premier League by four points, but they had a nervy ending after Matheus Cunha‘s goal before stoppage time. They managed to hold on for a third-straight league win.
