Luka Modric’s arrival at Milan was seen as a gamble by many but the 40-year-old has quickly silenced the doubters.

The former Ballon d’Or winner has been a standout performer since leaving Real Madrid, providing leadership and quality in the Rossoneri midfield.

Modric joined the Serie A side on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Los Blancos expired.

According to Spainish outlet Sport, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Rossoneri are so encouraged by the Croatian’s impact that they are already considering a similar move next summer.

Sporting director Igli Tare recently met with Pini Zahavi, the agent of Robert Lewandowski.

Milan look to Lewandowski after Modric success

The Barcelona striker, 37, remains prolific in La Liga but is out of contract at the end of the season. His priority is reportedly to stay in Catalonia, with hopes that the club will trigger the option to extend his deal by a further year.

However, his future will depend on both his performances and Barcelona’s long-term project, with lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia also in the background.

If the Polish forward chooses not to stay at Barcelona and turns down offers from elsewhere, there is nothing stopping Milan from looking to Modric as an example to snap up another experienced star from La Liga.
