Milan are on the cusp of sealing a surprise agreement with veteran midfielder and former Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, who will officially leave Real Madrid after 13 years at the end of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have received Modric’s approval and are now confident of receiving his signature by Wednesday, June 4.

Modric, who will turn 40 in September, will be available as a free agent once his Madrid tenure comes to an end.

Colleagues have previously suggested that Modric is a long-term Milan supporter, and that he is eager to continue playing his football in San Siro.

New Rossoneri sporting director Igli Tare reportedly presented the idea of coming to Milan to the player, while new head coach Massimiliano Allegri is also understood to be keen on working with the Croatia legend.

Modric has spent the last 13 years with Madrid, winning a staggering six Champions League titles, four LaLiga trophies, two in the Copa del Rey, five in the Supercopa de Espana, as well as five UEFA Super Cups, five Club World Cups and one Intercontinental Cup.

He also has four years with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on his CV, as well as five years in the Dinamo Zagreb first-team.
