Milan sit in ninth place in Serie A and a large part of that is down to their failure to get results against the other top teams.

The Rossoneri were beaten 1-0 last night by Atalanta at San Siro, practically ending their ambitions of qualifying for European football via the league table.

It was only the latest in a long list of dismal results against the sides ahead of them in the table.

Milan failure in big games proved pivotal

Out of 42 available points against these clubs, the Diavolo only managed to scrape eight thanks to one victory, five draws and eight defeats.

Of those eight points, four were earned against their rivals Inter, winning 2-1 and drawing 1-1.

Milan lost both home and away to Napoli and Atalanta, picking up one point from two fixtures with Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina.

They still have a chance to improve that scenario, as there will be another match against Bologna and one more with Roma.

The Rossoneri lost 2-1 to Bologna and drew 1-1 with Roma.
