Milan verdict: Conceicao trouble as Rossoneri hit crisis status with errors in Torino defeat – Football Italia – February 23 latest

Milan’s 2-1 loss to Torino on Saturday was the latest blow in what has been a testing season for the Rossoneri and their supporters, which has led papers in Italy to criticise Sergio Conceicao and suggest that the team are now in crisis mode. 

Milan fell behind twice against Torino on Saturday evening through a Malick Thiaw own goal and Gvidas Gineitis in the second half. Christian Pulisic missed the first penalty of his career before Tijjanier Reijnders temporarily levelled the scores to 1-1. 

The Rossoneri have won just once in their last four matches in all competitions and are currently seventh in the Serie A standings, six points outside the Champions League positions: A margin that could be extended with a victory for Juventus on Sunday. 

With a 2-1 aggregate loss against a depleted Feyenoord side on Tuesday, Milan are now out of the Champions League for the 2024-25 season as well.  

Milan verdict: Conceicao criticised for Milan ‘crisis’

Several outlets in Italy lay the blame for the Torino defeat at Conceicao’s feet. Calciomercato.com claims that the tactician got his formation and team selection wrong, as he made just one enforced change from the Feyenoord loss – Alex Jimenez replacing the injured Kyle Walker. 

Corriere dello Sport also criticised the coach’s team selection, and also suggested that Milan are currently ‘in crisis’ following their run of underwhelming results in February. 

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Torino loss was the latest episode in a series of unfortunate events for Milan that goes back further than Conceicao’s appointment. The Pink Paper suggests that the whole season has been one to forget for the Rossoneri. 

Conceicao is not the only one who has been scrutinised following the Torino defeat, though. Mike Maignan has also been cast under the spotlight after his latest error, while Milannews.it suggests that the team’s ‘big players’ have let them down – most recently Maignan, Malick Thiaw, Pulisic and Theo Hernandez.
