Milan’s Ibrahimovic ‘on the sidelines’ in summer market

Il Giornale journalist Franco Ordine has spoken in a radio interview in which he revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic played a marginal role in Milan’s transfer market this summer, with new sporting director Igli Tare taking stage front and centre in the club’s business.

Speaking to TMW Radio, with quotes via MilanNews.it, Ordine said that “Ibrahimovic has been much on the sidelines in this transfer market. He went back to doing what he had originally been brought in for, since last year he made some mistakes with Milan Futuro, yet another failure of last season.”

Ibrahimovic’s role is a bit of a complicated one to pin down. In 2023, the legendary former striker was hired by RedBird Capital Partners, the investment management firm that owns the majority share of Milan, as the ‘Senior Advisor to AC Milan.’ The Swede serves as a proxy between the ownership and the club but appears to have had little influence on the club’s summer.

Ordine judges Milan transfer market

Ordine went on to give his opinion on the Rossoneri’s summer market in general, including the work done by former Lazio sporting director Igli Tare, who also joined the Lombardian club this summer: “As for Tare, when he arrived the sale of Reijnders had already been completed, as well as the signing of Ricci. At that point, adding Modric to the midfield could have made sense but perhaps instead of adding Jashari, what was really needed was a more box-to-box midfielder. In this sense, we can thank Rabiot’s quarrel in Marseille.”

Finally, the journalist concluded with his thoughts on the Rossoneri’s defence, stating that “Akanji would have been useful”, after the Swiss international completed a deadline day move to Milan’s fierce city rivals Inter.
