Mohamed Salah has revealed the secret advice once given to him by Arsene Wenger and how it has helped him.
Speaking at a sponsor’s event with Standard Chartered with fellow Liverpool players Alisson and Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah revealed that Arsenal‘s legendary (former) manager Arsene Wenger once gave him a piece of advice that, it would seem, has been fundamental to his tremendous success as a footballer.
“[Arsene Wenger] was at Melwood at that time,” Salah relates in the interview; “then I asked him ‘what’s the difference between a good player and a really, really good player?'”
Salah says that Wenger’s answer was: “‘I think the very, very good player is always focused on the game. Even if he doesn’t have the momentum, he stays in the game until the last minute or until the whistle.'”

That’s all the advice was, but it has had a tremendous impact. Reflecting on his own performances, Salah was honest enough to say: “I know there’s some games I don’t have the momentum […] but I’m always focus on the game to finish stuff.”
Salah followed up by telling an anecdote about Liverpool‘s current assistant coach Johnny Heiting saying to him: “oh Mo, you’re not playing well today,” to which Salah responded; “yeah, but I always find the moment.”
Mo Salah: a master of moments
It’s hard to argue that Wenger’s advice hasn’t played an enormous part in Salah’s success at Liverpool, because it so accurate describes the way he plays the game as a player for the big moments.
Salah’s tremendous effectiveness in the big moments was actually highlighted recently by, of all people, Man Utd fans. In an effort to discuss how incredible Bruno Fernandes has been since joining The Red Devils they would post the table of Premier League players with the most goal involvements since Bruno Fernandes’ debut.
And while Fernandes was second on the list with an incredible 155 goal involvements (83 goals, 72 assists) the ultimate glory went to Salah who was streaks ahead at the top with 198 goal involvements (134 goals, 64 assists).
Since Bruno Fernandes made his #PL debut, only Mohamed Salah has more goal involvements (198) than Bruno Fernandes (155).

With Liverpool sitting top of the Premier League table and Salah ranked as the second-top scorer and the second-top assister, it seems that Salah truly did take Arsene Wenger’s advice to heart. He is a consistent force in moments, always popping up with a goal or an assist to give Liverpool the game-changing influence they need.
Arsene Knows, eh?
