‘Moaners!’ – Fernandes explains Garnacho’s non-celebration

Bruno Fernandes has explained why Alejandro Garnacho appeared not to celebrate his goal against Leicester City.

The Red Devils have enjoyed an uptick in form under the Dutchman, and their Premier League match against newly-promoted Leicester rounded off a decent short spell.

At Old Trafford, Fernandes opened the scoring and was later involved in a second goal, which was ultimately credited as a Victor Kristiansen own goal. He then set up Garnacho for a brilliantly crafted third goal, sealing United’s victory.

United have yet to confirm details about Amorim’s coaching staff, including whether Vn Nistelrooy will remain involved as an assistant coach. The Dutch legend was celebrated by fans at the final whistle after guiding United to three wins and a draw in four matches, even as the club continues to sit in the bottom half of the Premier League standings.

For Leicester, Wilfred Ndidi missed a prime opportunity to equalise when he beat the offside trap but fired directly at United’s keeper, Andre Onana, in a one-on-one.

But it was Garnacho’s goal which caught the most attention, mostly for the fact that he did not celebrate after it.

Earlier this week, footage of a fan telling him to improve his first touch went viral. Garnacho was not pleased to be on the receiving end of such suggestions from a supporter.

Captain Fernandes explained that this was the reason why the Argentine did not celebrate. “Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans,” he said via BBC Sport.

“I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do.”
