Mohamed Salah: Liverpool take drastic action as ‘disciplinary’ verdict falls

Mohamed Salah will face drastic action from Liverpool ahead of the club’s trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League after his outburst following the club’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday.

Salah was left on the bench for a third successive Premier League match for the trip to Elland Road, which saw Liverpool denied victory by a late strike.

After the game, the angry Egyptian striker attacked the club, indicating that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down. He accused the Reds of “throwing him under a bus” and failing to keep promises they made to him in the summer when he was handed a new two-year contract.

Now Liverpool are expected to drop the attacker from the trip to face last season’s Champions League runners-up at San Siro, according to David Ornstein.

The decision has been taken out of Arne Slot’s hands according to The Athletic, which indicates that sporting director Richard Hughes is ready to come down heavily on the 33-year-old.

It does note that a “final decision” is yet to be made, but Salah is not expected to travel to Italy for the clash.

Does Salah have a future at Liverpool?

Crucially, Salah’s exclusion against Inter does not mark the end of the player’s Liverpool career – at least according to the available information.

The Athletic claims: “Liverpool do not regard the Egypt international’s exclusion against Inter as disciplinary action and the step is viewed in isolation, rather than having a bearing on Salah’s possible selection going forward – including for Saturday’s Premier League game at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.”

It goes on to explain that the Anfield club are not planning to sell Salah and that the current position of the Liverpool icon can be salvaged.

Given the player has been unhappy about being on the bench, it remains to be seen how he deals with being frozen out entirely and whether he does accept an olive branch from the club.
